NVQ Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

The Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) qualification is designed for individuals who wish to become qualified emergency first aiders in the workplace. This course provides learners with the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence to respond effectively to a range of accidents and first aid emergencies.

This qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and is fully accredited under the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).

What is Emergency First Aid at Work?

Emergency First Aid at Work is the immediate care given to a casualty suffering from an injury or illness before professional medical assistance arrives.

The qualification is suitable for:

  • Small businesses and low-risk environments
  • Volunteers and charity workers
  • Hospitality and customer-facing roles
  • Security operatives (mandatory for SIA Close Protection, Door Supervisor, Cash and Valuables in Transit CVIT licenses)

What Will You Learn?

You will gain vital first aid knowledge and practical skills to confidently manage:

The role and responsibilities of a first aider
Assessing an incident safely
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED use
Unresponsive and breathing / not breathing casualties
Seizures, choking, wounds and bleeding
Minor injuries (e.g. cuts, grazes, burns)

Note: This training covers the minimum statutory requirement for workplace first aiders under UK law.

Who Should Take This Course?

This qualification is ideal for:

Anyone appointed as a workplace emergency first aider
Security operatives including those taking SIA courses
People working in low-risk sectors (retail, education, admin, etc.)
Learners needing basic compliance for insurance and legal purposes

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. Candidates must be at least 14 years old, and capable of physically demonstrating CPR and recovery position techniques. Competency in English is required for understanding instructions and assessments.

Refresher and Renewal Requirements

3-Year Validity

Your certification is valid for three years from the date of issue. It is strongly recommended that first aiders undertake an annual recertification course. To remain certified beyond three years, you must retake the full Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) course.

First Aid Compliance for SIA

If you intend to obtain or renew your SIA Licence, you must hold a valid Level 3 First Aid at Work (RQF) certificate. This Level 2 Emergency First Aid course does not satisfy this requirement unless extended and upgraded with additional hours.

Booking and Certification

You will receive a certificate from a recognised awarding body approved by Ofqual and HSE. Digital and hard copies are issued within 7 working days after successful completion.
